A detailed guide to choosing the perfect collar for your pet
What is a martingale collar
Learn about the benefits and design features of the martingale

Functional and safe design
A "martingale" (also called a limited-slip collar) is a special type of collar that combines ease of use, comfort for the dog, and high reliability. Its construction lets the collar gently tighten under leash tension, preventing the dog from slipping out.
Unlike regular collars, the martingale has no rigid fixation and adapts to the dog's movements. When the leash is not taut, the collar sits loosely around the neck for maximum comfort.
Construction and how it works
A martingale collar consists of two loops. The larger loop goes over the dog's neck, and the leash attaches to the smaller loop. When the dog pulls, the leash tension tightens the small loop, making the large loop smaller and snug around the neck, preventing escape. Unlike a choke, the tightening is limited and safe. A properly fitted collar sits comfortably loose around the neck when the dog isn't pulling, yet won't let it slip out.

Most often collars are made to size and have just two main size positions: the tightened position — the size the collar tightens down to around the dog's neck; and the loose position — the size of the fully relaxed collar, which lets it slip over the head. We call this the "head size".

Collars without adjustment can be made only as a custom order. But in our online shop, for greater versatility and your convenience, we mainly offer adjustable martingale collars and have developed 7 main sizes.
The benefit of adjustment
Adjustable collars have a two-slot buckle that lets you increase or decrease the size the collar tightens to on the pet's neck. This is especially handy if you are unsure of the exact measurement or if the dog is still growing.
Key differences from other collars
Adapts to the dog's movement
Because of the anatomy of many dogs, a classic collar often has to stay tight around the neck the whole time to prevent escape. The martingale solves this — it only tightens firmly around the neck when needed.
Convenience
Slips over the head in seconds. No fiddling with buckles — just put it on and go! Perfect for active dogs.
Reliability
No buckle means nothing to come undone! The martingale self-tightens under tension, keeping the dog from escaping.
Comfort
When the leash is loose, the collar sits freely around the neck, minimizing pressure. The soft lining adds extra comfort.
Safety
Choke or prong collars are often used for escape-prone dogs. But such gear is strictly a tool for professionals and is not recommended for everyday use. The martingale is the safe version — the tightening has a limiter that prevents accidental harm while keeping the dog from slipping out.
